Finding the right community is as important as finding the perfect house. You probably can't imagine your next home without thinking about your new neighbors, friendships, or your child's new school. This is why it is important to find a Realtor who is not only knowledgeable about real estate, but is also a member of the community in which they sell homes. Flagstaff is my community and I am very proud to be a part of it. Though Flagstaff has many attractive features and forms of entertainment, the most impressive aspect is the community itself.
Flagstaff, Arizona, located along historic Route 66, rests at 7,000 feet nestled at the base of the San Francisco Peaks, Arizona's highest point at 12,633 feet. Flagstaff is northern Arizona's largest city as well as its regional trade center. The city is also home to the county seat for Coconino County, the second largest county in the nation, with twelve million acres.
ECONOMICS - The Flagstaff area has numerous assets that allow it to compete favorably with other cities of similar size. A highly rated quality of life, excellent educational opportunities enhanced by NAU and CCC, and a motivated, educated, and qualified work force enable Flagstaff to meet the economic challenges of today and the future. Flagstaff's traditional economic base of government, eduction, transportation and tourism is diversifying and broadening, thanks in part to several science and high technology research and development companies that have chosen to locate in our community.
LABOR FORCE - In 1997 Flagstaff's labor force totaled 29,921 people. The most recent age demographics available are from the 1990 census and indicate that 53.1 percent of the work force is between twenty-five and forty-five, which promotes labor stability. Within the Flagstaff city limits 27,939 persons are employed. Source: ADOC Flagstaff Profile, 1998.
MEDICAL - Flagstaff has an extensive array of medical facilities and resources that provide excellent traditional, integrative and alternative healthcare. As the regional referral center for all of northern Arizona, Flagstaff Medical Center has the technology and services you would expect to find in a larger city, including:
Cancer Center of Northern Arizona
Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory
Children's Health Center
Critical Care Units
Ground and Air Medical Transport
Advanced Imaging (MRI, CT Scan, SPECT)
Maternal and Pediatric Services, including high risk Neurodiagnostic Services
Physical and Occupational Therapy
Rehabilitation Center of Northern Arizona
Skilled Nursing Facility
Special Care Nursery (neonatal intensive care)
Flagstaff Medical Center has more than 130 physicians on active staff, representing 36 medical specialties, including cardiology, pulmonology, neurosurgery, nephrology, and more. FMC is a community-based, not-for-profit hospital and one of the lowest cost hospitals in the state.
RECREATION - Flagstaff is within 70 miles of six National Parks and Monuments including the Grand Canyon, Montezuma Castle, Walnut Canyon and Sunset Crater. Phoenix is located only two hours south of Flagstaff and Las Vegas is a four-hour drive to the northwest. Just miles outside of Flagstaff are two Nordic skiing centers and the Arizona Snowbowl. Twenty miles south, and 2,000 vertical feet below Flagstaff are Oak Creek Canyon and the Town of Sedona, a red rock masterpiece. An entourage of smaller natural lakes and reservoirs are located east of Flagstaff. The City's Parks and Recreation division offers a popular variety of organized competitive adult/youth leagues such as softball, baseball, volleyball, basketball, soccer and ice hockey. Within the city limits are three swimming pools, four fitness and recreation centers, an indoor ice/in-line skating rink, a pressurized tennis dome, and a professional indoor stadium.
